Here is my first week's results

I realized that I had 3 different recipes for whoopie pies and I needed to make a treat for my daughter's cheer squad - so perfect combo :)  One recipe was a modified box mix, the other said it would be a very thin batter so I did the Goldilocks choice of the one that seemed "just right".  And it was.  I also found a cookies and cream filling to try and after some modifications I think it is a keeper.   The feedback from the cheerleaders was a loud hooray so I guess they turned out well!  I'm so excited about this project I already have so many things I want to make I can't decide what to do for next week!  I'm thinking some type of brownie - the boys basketball team is going to state and I know that is the coach's favorite.  After all, I do need somewhere for all these treats to go instead of sticking around here!

Hello There

When I first started this blog I intended to use it as a tool to keep my cake pictures in a place that everyone could see them if they ever wanted to know what I can do.  I didn't intend to write anything really.  However, lately I've been wanting to do more in the baking department.  I love desserts - I think I could live on Breakfast foods and dessert.  But that's redundant since I believe they are interchangeable :)  I was browsing through the cookbook isle at the local big box bookstore recently and found 2 books that I loved.  They were more like text books that would teach me how to make many different styles of desserts and why everything in a recipe is there so I could start to create my own.  It got me thinking about the movie Julie & Julia and with no shame of completely copying the concept, I started to desire to do that with these 2 books.  After I got home I started looking through all the recipes I already have stuffed into my box and on my computer and I decided that it would be good to start there instead.  I have so many recipes that I've gathered just because I wanted to try them "someday".  Well, today is that day.  When I announced this plan to my family they begged me to keep it to only 1 day a week rather than everyday (like the movie) because none of us can afford that many calories.  True.  So that's what I've decided.  I will be baking a new recipe from my own collection each week; sometimes comparing several different varieties of the same recipe to see which one I like best and sometimes just trying something new.  I wish I had been better over the years to write down where all the recipes came from so I could properly give credit.  I never thought I would be doing something like this.  Whenever possible I will absolutely make a note and I'll try not to offend anyone in the process.

I'm still going to try to be "short-winded" and let the pictures do most of the talking, but I will add descriptions and a little bit about what I did with each one.  And of course my cakes will still be added whenever they come up. (here is my stuffed recipe box, not to mention all the print outs, cookbooks & those saved on my computer!)

For my first project this week I'm going to do a cookies and cream whoopie pie!  mmmm.  Now I'm off to the grocery store - then to the kitchen!
